Data Set Description Download
Officers Killed & Assaulted Law enforcement agencies across the state report this data to the CA Department of Justice as part of the Federal Uniform Crime Reporting Program. It includes officers who work in an official capacity, have full arrest powers, carry a badge, carry a firearm, and are paid from governmental funds set aside specifically for payment of sworn law enforcement representatives.
Death in Custody & Arrest-Related Deaths California law enforcement agencies report to the CA Department of Justice information on any death that occurs while an individual is: (1) in the process of arrest, (2) in the temporary custody of a municipal, county, or state law enforcement agency, or (3) incarcerated in a county, or state correctional facility.
Arrest Rates California law enforcement agencies report to the CA Department of Justice information on felony arrests, misdemeanor arrests, and juvenile status arrests (e.g., a curfew violation) occurring within the state. This Monthly Arrest and Citation Register data includes details of the arrest (date, offense, arrest), basic demographic information of the individual arrested, and limited information on the law enforcement disposition of the arrest.
Crimes & Clearances California law enforcement agencies report this data to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) as part of the Federal Uniform Crime Reporting Program (UCR). This data tracks eight crimes: homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault (together, "violent crimes"), burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft (together, "property crimes"), and arson.
Electronic Search Warrant Notifications California law requires any government entity that executes a warrant, or obtains information in an emergency from an electronic communication service provider or from an electronic device shall notify the identified targets of the warrant or emergency request that information about them has been compelled or obtained. The law requires that the government entity provide specific information about the investigation under which the information is sought and provide a copy of the warrant or a written statement setting forth facts giving rise to the emergency. (California Penal Code s. 1546.2)
